The brightest stars of the local music constellation were at the Airtel Music Awards at the ICCS on Friday evening, to see who amongst them would walk away with the coveted awards. Amadou Dina, chief executive officer (CEO) of Airtel said that the award ceremony was the means through which the telecommunications company chose to honour and “celebrate the artists’ good job” throughout 2015. He noted that despite only a few walking away with awards “all the artists are winners”. He went on to thank the artists, sponsors, the principal secretaries for the department of Information Communications Technology (DICT) and Culture, CEOs in attendance like Alvin Nourrice of the Seychelles National Youth Council (SNYC), the Airtel employees amongst others.

The big winner on the night was Philippe Toussaint who walked away with three awards. He has won the award for the People’s Choice Award, the Best Song of the Year for “Pa Pou Anpandan” featuring Jahrimba and the Best Male Artist of the Year. As he was performing on Praslin that night, his daughter and singer Tracy Toussaint collected his prizes. Local favourite, Tania walked away with the Best Female Artist of the Year award.

Newcomer Angie won the Best New Artist award. Ambitious and Travis won the Best Collaboration award for their song “Lanmour Voras”, whilst Joseph Sinon clinched the Best Traditional award for his song “Msye Marcel”. The late Jeanne Leg received a posthumous award for her long contributions to the local music scene.
